Fluid lines, millimeter-level precision, and a deeply artisanal spirit: this is the hallmark of New Living, a Tuscan company that has transformed the production of staircases and furnishings into a true art form. Rooted in the local community and focused on international markets, the company has found in TopSolid'Steel and its modeling extensions the ideal technology partner for digitizing its expertise and automating processes, from initial design through to workshop production.
A story of growth, innovation, and passion
New Living’s history dates back to 1977, when Andrea Benci began his journey as a craftsman in the fabrication of wooden and iron staircases, laying the groundwork for the company’s founding in 1982. Over the years, the arrival of key figures such as Giuseppe La Fico Guzzo (Sales Director) and Michele Benetti (Production Manager) marked the transition from a local workshop to a European and global leader. The evolution of materials - including the introduction of stainless steel and glass—has gone hand in hand with steady structural expansion: from the historic factory in Cecina to the opening of the San Miniato showroom, designed to offer Tuscan designers direct access to sample collections.
Today, with over 3,500 square meters of floor space, the company combines manufacturing tradition with state-of-the-art machinery, including vertical warehouses, automated packaging systems, and the latest-generation laser cutting centers. The strength of this team—composed of more than 15 expert craftsmen who put their hearts into their work every day—is evident in their ongoing commitment to investing in the improvement of the services they offer. The quality of the final product is guaranteed by a rigorous process: each staircase is fully pre-assembled on-site before being installed at the customer’s location, ensuring impeccable precision both in Italy and abroad.
The challenge: managing the complexity of custom work
Entering the market for designer projects and highly customized creations presented New Living with a crucial challenge: managing the high geometric variability of staircases without compromising artisanal precision. The need was twofold:
- To impeccably assess dimensions and three-dimensional spaces as early as the estimation phase.
- To provide architects and clients with a photorealistic and geometrically accurate 3D visualization of the project.
- Standardize internal manufacturing processes while maintaining the total flexibility of custom-made products.
The parametric turning point with topsolid
The solution to these needs was the adoption of the TopSolid modeling suite. What impressed the engineering department was the interface’s extreme intuitiveness and speed, combined with specific tools for staircase design. The software’s flexibility has enabled New Living to map and digitize its production processes and internal construction elements.
Parametric Models and Integration with Production
Thanks to TopSolid’s capabilities, the company is developing fully parametric models. This means that the design rules, structural constraints, and machining operations associated with individual components automatically adapt to new project dimensions. The software does more than just draw; it “understands” the craftsman’s construction rules, drastically reducing design time and eliminating the risk of human error in the transition from design to workshop production.
A bridge to designers: the “New Living Design” line
Over the past year, the launch of the new “NewLiving Design” line marked the company’s official entry into the full-scale interior design sector. In this context, TopSolid has proven to be an irreplaceable business asset: it enables rapid collaboration with architectural firms by integrating their files and displaying the new product lines directly within the context of the building project, thereby accelerating approval times.
Key benefits identified
- Visualization and Verification: Accurate assessment of complex spaces and dimensions directly in 3D, eliminating surprises on the construction site.
- Intuitive Interface: Optimal learningcurve and speed of execution in day-to-day design work.
- Engineering of Know-How: Creation of internal parametric models that encapsulate the company’s design rules.
- B2B Synergy: Ability to communicate seamlessly and professionally with architects and designers, enhancing sales presentations.
“As we work on increasingly customized projects, choosing TopSolid'Steel was a natural decision. It’s a valuable tool for quickly collaborating with architects and showcasing new designs early in the project phase, while ensuring the structural accuracy that has always defined us.”
The future between sustainability and innovation
New Living’s technological evolution goes hand in hand with a deep commitment to environmental responsibility: all the wood used in its projects is FSC- and PEFC-certified, ensuring it comes from forests managed properly and responsibly. With the computational power and parametric flexibility of TopSolid, the company is now ready to meet the challenges of international markets, exporting the excellence of “Made in Italy” design and automation to the world.
